did your bliss find you peace

When I began the following poem, I had yet to hear about Corey Haim's death.  Once I read the news, the poem moved around on its own and stuck with the final result.  Even though the coming days may show that his death was something other than initial reports, I have decided to keep my poem as is.  Even if it doesn't pertain to him to the last detail, the sentiment expressed likely mirrors other experiences out there.

how could you take that step
venturing onward alone
grasping at empty promises
with nothing left to hold
did your bliss find you peace
ease away the pain
did your soul find redemption
erase away the shame
was it worth that one last high
as the darkness rolled slowly in
stealing every beat and breath
despair clinging to the skin

Wednesday
blossoms on the tree
