close my eyes too long

close my eyes too long
I smell tropical blossoms
hear the sway of the leaves
waves carried by the breezes
crashing soundly on the shore
close my eyes too long
I feel the brush of the sun
high and warm in the blue sky
drawing the minutes slowly
woven into a sweet eternity
close my eyes too long
I taste the salty air
not minding the warm nights
moonlight white on the water
stars so stark against the sky
lighting wistful wandering dreams
close my eyes too long
I fight against the sensations
choking down the longing
the almost desperate knowing
paradise awaits one future day
if we dare embrace its call
when I close my eyes too long

It's nice having a day alone. I don't have to talk much. LOL!

I posted at my Moonlit Jazz blog because I was feeling quite reminiscient earlier today. But I'll continue here too. :)

I wonder how my sister's dog fares these days.

Atlanta 2005

I took a lot of pictures of him when we were there. LOL!

Hershey

Hershey didn't like having her picture taken. She was shy. Or maybe she believes that when you take a picture, you're taking a piece of the soul.

on the way out of Atlanta

I wouldn't mind going back to Atlanta someday soon again. Sometimes, just sometimes, we consider packing it in and starting over and sometimes, just sometimes, Atlanta is one of the places we consider. Hey, at least I'd have my sister there. Oh, and there's baseball and football (though I don't like either team).

After Georgia and all its attractions, we headed up to Baltimore, Maryland. And I must show off the following photos because they bring me such delight! Oh, and they were from exactly three years TODAY. Neat, eh? :D

meeting Mike Bordick

chatting with Mike Bordick

with Mike Bordick

I still say what are the chances that I would meet one of my favorite players of all time? Retired player at that! Here's an excerpt of what I wrote three years ago:
I glanced over and saw a man in a number 14 Bordick jersey. And it looked like Mike Bordick! I had to ask the vendor if it was in fact Mike Bordick and he said that it was and I knew I had to say something to him. He was holding a bucket for the donations to the victims of Katrina. A Comcast camera man was standing by and when I came to drop my money, he stopped me and asked me to do it for the camera. The “money shot” as he said. So I had to wait a moment before once again approaching Mr. Mike Bordick. I couldn’t stop smiling! When the camera man said go, I tried it again and dropped my money into Bordick’s bucket.

No one else came around for a moment, so I took the opportunity to tell him that he was my favorite player when he was with the A’s. He smiled and ran a hand over his head and said something about having more hair back then. He asked what I was doing in Baltimore, “chasing the A’s shortstops?” I laughed and mentioned Byrnes too, but told him that we were visiting the area. I asked to take a picture with him (OF COURSE!) and he gladly obliged. Before I left, I introduced myself (so backwards am I, eh?) and we shook hands and he said thank you (for the donation).

I was so stoked about meeting him that I couldn’t truly take in the fact that I was walking through the beautiful and marvelous Oriole Park Camden Yards.

Truly, I was thrilled to meet him. :) Can you tell?

Jays at O's

If you ever get to visit Oriole Park at Camden Yards, DO IT. It's is a BEAUTIFUL park. Gorgeous, just gorgeous. Tis a shame the Orioles are doing better, but such is baseball. I'm glad I was able to watch a game there. Too bad it wasn't with the A's. But Tejada and Byrnes were on the team at the time, so that was nice. LOL!

Okay, so Baltimore wasn't just Oriole Park. We also checked out the Sports Legends Museum at Camden Yards and the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum. Truly cool places!

We were on the East Coast right after Katrina. Remember when the gas prices shot up because of the hurricane? Now we'd probably LOVE if gas was only $3.19 for regular!

And then there was Washington DC! I'll save that for another time.
